Southwest Louisiana quickly developed as one of the
United States' preeminent rice producers when it was discovered in
1890 that the land could be easily adapted for rice growing.
Supreme Rice Mill's impact on the rice industry began in 1940 when
Joseph Doré, Sr. established milling operations in Crowley.
Supreme has been in continuous operation since that time.
It was only a short interval until World War II stretched thin
the mill's workforce, as many of the community's young men went
to war. Joseph Doré’s two sons, Joseph, Jr. and Gordon,
both saw military action, and Mrs. Doré, like so many other
women made her contribution to the war by working alongside her
husband at the mill. The late 1940’s saw Supreme enter into
the international market and the company embarked on long-term
research and development plans.
Today, still family-owned and run, Gordon Doré, Chairman
of the Board, and son, William A. "Bill" Doré,
President and Chief Executive Officer, have moved the mill into
the 21st century. State-of-the-art equipment and in-house
quality control ensure the integrity and quality that Joseph
Doré established over a half century earlier.
